6-Week Software Engineering Intensive

Learn to Build Software
Not Just Write Code.

You know the basics. You can follow tutorials. But when the tutorial ends, building something on your own is a different story.

Learn to break down problems, make decisions, and gradually become more independent.

The Gap

After the tutorial.

Following a tutorial is very different from starting with a blank project and figuring out what to build.

You have to decide where to start, how to structure the code, what belongs where, and what to do when something doesn't work.

This course is built around that transition.

Who It's For

You don't need professional experience.

This course is for you if:

  • ✓You can move beyond syntax and start thinking about design.
  • ✓Unclear or unfamiliar requirements leave you unsure where to begin.
  • ✓You want to sharpen your software design and problem-solving skills.
  • ✓You want to work more confidently on your own.
  • ✓You can commit roughly 8–12 hours per week.
  • ✓You prefer live interaction and direct feedback over another video course.

This course isn't for you if:

  • ✗You're completely new to programming.
  • ✗You want to learn a programming language from scratch.
  • ✗You want a passive video library.
  • ✗You're looking specifically for LeetCode/interview preparation.
  • ✗You cannot commit the required time.
  • ✗You're looking for guaranteed employment or a guaranteed salary increase.
The Transformation

From following instructions
to figuring things out.

The course starts with guidance and gradually takes it away. Each challenge gives you more ownership of the engineering process.

01
Implement

Start with a concrete problem.

02
Diagnose

Investigate what went wrong.

03
Design

Decide how the system should change.

04
Improve

Find and justify improvements.

05
Own

Take the problem from start to finish.

By the final challenge, there is no step-by-step recipe to follow.

The Project

One System. Six Weeks.

You'll start with a small software system and evolve it throughout the course as new requirements and problems appear.

Problem → Understand → Design → Implement → Test → Debug → Review → Adapt
Live sessions

12 × 90-minute hands-on sessions. We reason about requirements, design solutions, write code, test, debug, and review decisions together.

Between sessions

You work independently on increasingly difficult challenges, applying what you've learned to the evolving system.

You don't need to know Dart. The language is the vehicle. The subject is software engineering.

What's Included

Everything you need to actually build.

Code review

Direct feedback on your design decisions, code quality, APIs, testing, and engineering tradeoffs from a professional.

Live sessions

12 × 90-minute live sessions where you actively work through requirements, design, implementation, and debugging — facilitated in real time.

Mentorship

The instructor reviews each student's work individually and provides feedback. Review topics and progress are discussed at the start of live sessions.

Pre-configured development environment

Your own user on a shared server — ready for live coding, assignments, and experiments during the course.

One project, built iteratively

One system that grows with you throughout the six weeks instead of several unrelated assignments.

The Goal

By the end of six weeks
you'll be more independent.

Not because I've handed you a bunch of answers.

Because you've become better at finding them yourself.

The goal isn't to train you to replicate someone else's solutions. It's to make you comfortable thinking through problems on your own.

Gábor Maksa

Software Engineer & Mentor

I teach software design by working through real problems together — the way software engineers actually think. I focus on the reasoning behind engineering decisions rather than prescribing solutions. With passion and over four years of professional experience building production systems at scale — and preceding that, several years of learning all by myself — I bring lessons learned from shipping secure, high-throughput APIs, architecting databases under pressure, and debugging systems where performance and correctness can't be compromised.

Background
  • ▸Built and maintained secure, high-throughput APIs serving telecommunications infrastructure.
  • ▸Architected a dual-backend system (Python + Rust) that reduced query latency by 11×.
  • ▸Built complex real-time systems, from multiplayer game networking to concurrent logging architectures.

FAQ
Is this a programming course?+

Not in the traditional sense. The course focuses on what happens after you know how to write code: understanding unfamiliar problems, making design decisions, dealing with change, debugging, and working independently.

What programming language is used?+

We will use Dart over the course. You do not need knowledge of this language to take the course, as it mainly focuses on the engineering process.

How much time do I need?+

~8–12 hours/week, including the live sessions.

What happens during the live sessions?+

You will actively work. Sessions involve requirements analysis, design discussions, implementation, testing, debugging, code review, and responding to new requirements.

How many students are there?+

6 students per course. This enables me to provide excellent mentorship to each one of you.

How does the application work?+

You submit a free application. Applications are reviewed manually. If you are eligible, you'll receive the payment details.

Do I need professional experience?+

No. If you are familiar with at least one programming language, even if you cannot independently ship production software, you can take the course. It is designed to help you become a better engineer.
